Birch and alder furniture
Basic cleaning: Wipe with a damp cloth. Use mild detergent such as tall oil soap mixed with water if necessary. Dry.
Maintenance cleaning: Do this if your furniture feels dry and lacks shine or if stains do not respond to regular treatment. Remove stains and dirt with citrus thinner or turpentine. If the surface feels coarse, sand lightly (grit 320). Apply a thin layer of oil wax with a soft cloth or a piece of foam plastic. Allow to dry for 15 to 30 minutes. Remove excess wax and polish with a clean, soft, dry piece of cotton cloth. Allow to dry for 24 hours.

Well-treated furniture just gets better with age!
NB. Oil waxes contain vegetable oils which dry through oxidation. Soiled cloths may catch fire by spontaneous combustion. Never squeeze used cloths in a tight bundle. Dispose of them according to local regulations.
