Introducing three new products at the Salone del Mobile fair in Milan

This spring in Milan, Nikari will launch three chairs that share a relaxed formal language, meticulous attention to detail, an understanding and respect for their organic wood material — and, of course, the essence of Nikari, a tradition of Finnish craftsmanship.

A chair whose every detail has been thought out and hand-crafted to the most precise form. A chair that pays homage to the native quality of its living material, wood. A chair that is beautiful and durable. A chair that will be sat on for generations. All of these aspects come to life in our new products for spring, which we will launch at the Salone del Mobile fair in Milan, in April.

Three very different chairs help to complete our collection: the Archetyp Lobby and the Archetyp Lounge armchairs, the Faneeri folding chair and the Akademia High bar stool. Despite outward differences in form and function, they all share a common origin in that they are made from genuine materials using sustainable manufacturing methods. The chairs also radiate a serenity, beauty and dignity that only comes from having every detail scrupulously thought out and carefully fashioned – when everything is in just the right place.

Jasper Morrison’s interpretation of the armchair archetype

We are proud to announce a new collaboration with designer Jasper Morrison. He has designed two functional, minimalist armchairs for Nikari, which draw on the iconic and archetypal design language of the armchair, while also bringing something completely new to the conversation.

“In updating this well-known archetype of upholstered armchair with wooden frame, we’ve tried to lighten the structure and give it the appearance of something both familiar and simultaneously fresh and of its time,” says Jasper Morrison.

“Nikari’s reputation for faultless craftsmanship allows the design to transcend ordinary everyday character, giving the design the edge it needs to perform in well-thought architectural surroundings.”

The Archetyp Lobby and Archetyp Lounge armchairs are suitable for a variety of seating areas, both formal and informal, including lobbies, meeting rooms, living rooms, and office waiting rooms. The chair is available in oiled ash or oak wood. The padded seat and backrest provide support even during prolonged sitting.

A beautiful and compact new folding chair

Our second spring innovation, the Faneeri, is a stylish folding chair that combines easy storage with comfort and minimal use of materials. The backrest is made of two thin cross-laminated plywood panels onto which the front and rear legs are attached. There is nothing superfluous about the structure.

“Unfolding the chair creates a naturally curved backrest; fold it back, and it becomes flat,” says chair designer Jonas Forsman.

“This construction enhances strength and comfort, eliminating the need for stretchers between the legs, creating a simple silhouette.”

Due to its minimal footprint, the chair remains elegant whether opened or folded, making it suitable for a wide range of spaces, from small homes to low-traffic commercial areas. It is made of lacquered oak.

New high model of the Akademia chair

Nikari’s beloved Akademia chair will be joined this spring by the new Akademia High stool. This brand new stool, designed by Wesley Walters and Salla Luhtasela, is a high version of their Akademia chair, which the design duo created for Nikari in 2019.

The Akademia’s design language, which is still part of Nikari’s collection, fuses the traditions of Finnish chair making with a simplistic American Shaker style and a Japanese design sensibility. This same restful minimalist aesthetic is repeated in the Akademia High bar stool.

“The intention of the Akademia Bar Chair was to make bar-height seating that is as comfortable as a dining chair. The relatively high backrest and ample seat width ensures that even a full meal can be enjoyed at the bar. As with the Akademia chair, minimal, vertical lines are complemented by the thin curved plywood of the seat and backrest,” Wesley Walters and Salla Luhtasela say.

The new higher version of Akademia is equally suitable for homes and public environments ranging from cafés and restaurants to more informal office lounges. It can be upholstered in leather or textile for added comfort. The Akademia High bar stool is made of oak with different finishes and is available in two different heights.
